How Olympic-winner Neeraj Chopra met his wife Himani Mor: Their love story

Indian track and field athlete Neeraj Chopra has tied the knot with fellow sportsperson Himani Mor in a dreamy wedding. Here’s everything you need to know about his wife and a seasoned tennis champion.

The news of India’s ace javelin star Neeraj Chopra’s wedding to Himani Mor came as a surprise to many and broke the internet on January 19 evening. The news was shared by Olympian Neeraj Chopra on social media as he posted a few pictures from his hush-hush wedding.
Sharing their dreamy wedding pictures, Neeraj Chopra’s post read, “Started a new chapter of life with my family. Grateful for every blessing that brought us to this moment together. Bound by love, happily ever after.”

Considering that Neeraj Chopra, 27, prefers to keep his personal life private, not much was known about his intimate wedding to Himani. In fact, reports suggest that Neeraj’s wedding to Himani was a surprise even to many of his close friends!
As per reports, Neeraj Chopra and Himani Mor got married in an intimate wedding ceremony which was held at SuryaVilas Resort in Kumarhatti, near Solan. Their wedding was a private affair which was attended by only a few close family members. Interestingly, Neeraj’s beloved pet dog Tokyo was also present at their wedding. For the unversed, Tokyo was gifted to Neeraj Chopra by Olympian Abhinav Bindra when the former won a gold medal at his debut Olympics in Tokyo 2020– and hence the pet dog is named so!
How Neeraj Chopra met Himani Mor
Sharing details about how Neeraj Chopra met Himani Mor and how the couple decided to take their relationship to the next level, Neeraj’s uncle Surendra Chopra recently revealed some details in an interview with Aaj Tak. Surendra Chopra said that Neeraj and Himani met in the United States and the couple soon fell in love. Both Neeraj and Himani’s respective families also approved their relationship, and that’s when their wedding was planned just two months ago. Explaning why the wedding took place in such a short notice, Surendra Chopra said that both the families didn’t want to wait for two more years considering Neeraj’s packed schedule till 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. And since this was an off-season for Neeraj, they decided January 2025 to be suitable.
Neeraj and Himani’s wedding was a three-day event– and it took place from January 14 to 16, 2025, in Shimla. For the pre-wedding rituals, Himani had visited Neeraj’s village where she stayed for 14 hours. The couple wanted to keep their wedding strictly private; so much so that even the ‘pandit’ who officiated their wedding did not know that the groom was Neeraj Chopra, his uncle revealed! Also, the guest at the wedding were prohibited from using their mobile phones during the wedding ceremony.
Neeraj’s uncle Surendra Chopra also shared that the Olympian did not accept any dowry from the girl’s family for the wedding. Instead, Neeraj took only a rupee one as a token amount from Himani’s father as a mark of respect and good luck.

Born in Sonipat, Haryana, Himani Mor is a multi-talented individual with a strong academic and athletic background. She pursued a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Physical Education from Miranda House, Delhi University. During her college years, she represented Delhi University at the 2017 World University Games in Taiwan. She later advanced her studies in the United States, focusing on sports management.

Just like Neeraj Chopra, Himani Mor too is a sports star. She is a tennis player and a graduate in Political Science from Miranda House, Delhi University. She then moved to the USA to study Sports Management at Southeastern Louisiana University where she earned an MBA in Sports and Fitness Administration from Franklin Pierce University, as per reports. Currently she is studying Master of Science at the Isenberg School of Management. Alongside her studies, she is also working as a graduate assistant at Amherst College, Massachusetts where she manages the women’s tennis team.
Talking about Himani Mor, Neeraj Chopra’s uncle Bhim told PTI on January 19, “The girl is from Sonipat and she is studying in the US.” He further added, “They have left the country for honeymoon and I am not aware of the places where they are going. We wanted to keep it like that.”
Reports suggest that Neeraj Chopra and Himani Mor are currently in the US, and they plan to host a grand reception once they’re back in the country.
