Here’s Why Vicky Kaushal Visited Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga In Maharashtra

Last Updated:

Vicky Kaushal had visited the Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga in Aurangabad, Maharashtra recently. The temple is located in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

Vicky Kaushal took to his social media to share images from his visit to the Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga.

Vicky Kaushal went on a pan India tour to promote Chhaava. As he began the promotions, the actor visited Aurangabad, Maharashtra to pay a visit to Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga Temple to seek blessings. The actor, who plays Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the Chhaava, posted some pictures from his time at the temple on social media. In the photo, Vicky is seen praying inside the premises of the temple, performing several rituals during his spiritual sojourn.

Well, there is a reason why Vicky Kaushal decided to visit the said temple. It is located in the town of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, named after the Maratha king on whom the film is based.

Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, Maharashtra

Located just 1.5 km away from the famous Ellora Caves, the temple is famously believed to be the last of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was constructed in the 18th century. As per the legends, a devoted woman named Kusuma prayed to a Shiva Lingam under a tamarind tree. It was after a honeybee dropped honey on the idol that it was marked as sacred. Following the incident, the lingam transformed into Lord Shiva himself which led to the construction of the temple on that spot.

Built with a combination of a simple mix of South Indian and North Indian styles, the temple boasts beautiful carvings and sculptures. It holds a spiritual value among devotees as it includes a Jyotirlinga—a pillar of light that represents Lord Shiva.

Beyond its construction and carvings, the temple is also popular for its unique cultural traditions. For instance, there is an old Audumbar tree. It is believed to be more than 300 years old. Devotees tie threads around its branches with a belief that their wishes would come true. Once done, they untie these threads. That’s not all, the Shivalaya Teerth, a holy tank, located near the temple is said to have healing powers.

Apart from this temple, tourists can also visit the Ellora Caves, Ajanta Caves, Deogiri Fort, and Bibi ka Maqbara, all of which are in the vicinity.
