Brazilian nuns’ beat boxing on Catholic TV goes viral

Two Brazilian nuns have become unexpected social media stars after an impromptu beatbox and dance routine during a Catholic television program went viral, CNN reported.

Sisters Marizele Cassiano and Marisa de Paula, members of the Copiosa Redenção congregation, were appearing on Brazil’s Pai Eterno (Eternal Father) TV to talk about a vocational retreat.

While discussing a song about the religious calling, the pair suddenly stood up and launched into a spirited performance filled with rhythm, beatboxing, and dance moves.

Their joyful energy quickly caught on. Deacon Giovani Bastos, the show’s host, joined in, mimicking their moves and turning the segment into a memorable on-air moment.

The video quickly spread across Brazilian and international social media, gaining millions of views.

“That moment was very spontaneous,” Sister Marizele told the Associated Press. “With Sister Marisa, if you start a beat, she will dance. I’m used to singing and beatboxing, so it all came naturally.”

The sisters work with young people battling drug addiction, using music as a tool to inspire and connect. “Beatboxing, dancing, and the songs are tools that God uses to reach hearts. And it works,” she added.

Sister Marizele, now with over 100,000 Instagram followers, uses her platform to share faith-based content.

While Sister Marisa avoids social media, both continue to serve as vocation promoters, organising retreats for women exploring religious life.
