The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued notices to leading e-commerce platforms including Amazon India, Flipkart, Ubuy India, Etsy, The Flag Company and The Flag Corporation over the sale of Pakistani national flags and related merchandise on their websites, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi.

In a statement released on Wednesday on social media site X, the Union Minister described the listings as “insensitive” and said such content would not be tolerated. The platforms have been directed to take down all such products immediately and ensure strict compliance with Indian laws.

“The CCPA has issued notices to @amazonIN, @Flipkart, @UbuyIndia, @Etsy, The Flag Company and The Flag Corporation over the sale of Pakistani flags and related merchandise. Such insensitivity will not be tolerated. E-commerce platforms are hereby directed to immediately remove all such content and adhere to National laws,” the Dharwad MP said in a post on his X page.

The notice from the Union Minister comes amid heightened tensions between the neighbours India and Pakistan as they came close to a conflict after Islamabad used terrorists to target innocent civilians and then tried to attack India after Indian armed forces demolished terror hideouts deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The successful strikes under Operation Sindoor which saw Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) hideouts struck and over 100 terrorists killed marked a new normal in India’s counter-terror operations.

A startled Pakistan army intervened on behalf of terrorists and tried to attack India over a period of four days using drones, UAVs and cross-border firing and shelling, targeting civilians and military installations alike but bulk of the attacks were repelled by Indian air defences.

Indian Air Force (IAF) also struck eleven air bases deep inside Pakistan, causing extensive damage to them.
